The early church in the Bible was filled with people whose impact is still being felt today. We have that same opportunity to impact others for generations and centuries to come.
The amazing thing about the early church is that almost everyone had no training, no titles or no positions that “qualified” them, or put them in a place where people esteemed them and therefore listened to them.
They simply had an experience with God! They had received salvation and were filled with the Holy Spirit. They were committed to knowing Jesus and making Him known in their families and in their communities. They were empowered by God and God expected great things out of EVERY one of His children! Let’s see what Jesus had to say about the average believer in His day:
I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. John 14:12 NIV
Yes, anyone who has faith in Jesus can do what He did! Let’s take a quick look at three POWERFUL things that I take from Acts. 2:43-47 that ANYONE who has faith in Jesus can do:
- They shared what they had with those in need. (v. 44-45)We all have things. People most often think of things like money, food or possessions, which are good to share, but we can also share love, hope and encouragement, which are often in greater need in people we know.
- They spent time with people and had goodwill to all people. (v. 46-47)Simply spending time with people and working to do good in their life is a HUGE attention getter. Every day, it seems like people just want things from us, so when you show interest in helping and blessing people – it can get their attention! Also spending time with people allows us to share the love of Christ and really meet people where they are at.People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care…
- They helped people connect with Jesus. (v. 47)If we care about people, we MUST care about their eternity! Remember where we started: “anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing”. Jesus was very clear: “For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.” Luke 19:10
By spending time with people, sharing what we have and helping them to connect with Jesus, ANYONE who is a follower has the power to change people’s everyday life and most importantly their eternity.
I pray you let God use you today to do the things that He did…
